HP to Offer Solid State Hard Drives by Next Month

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is slated to make solid state drives available to business laptop buyers by next month. Solid state drives (SSD’s) have no moving parts making them much more shock resistant. Other benefits include longer battery life, less weight and faster loading applications.

Initially the solid state option will be approximately $1,000 extra, but the cost may not be an issue to people who can really use the benefits of solid state. HP’s VP of business notebooks, Dan Forenza, said that he expects costs to come down as solid state drives gain acceptance in the marketplace and volumes increase.

The 64GB solid state drives will be available in the HP / Compaq 2710p, 2510p, 6910p and the 8000 series with availability in more models in the near future.
