4 Terrabyte Hard Drives in Your Desktop by 2009

The new technology behind the 4TB Hard drives was developed by Hitachi’s Global Storage Technologies division. According to John Best, the chief technologist at Hitachi, computer hard drive capacity is doubling every two years.

Hitachi is slated to announce their new technology on Monday. The technology is scheduled to be implemented in hard drives by 2009.

The new technology allows for the hard drives to be smaller in dimensions with more storage capacity. This technology the Giant Magnetoresitence effect discovered by two Nobel Prize winning European scientists, Albert Fert and Peter Grunberg.
