Sony Discontinues all Rear Projection TVs
Sony is dropping out of the Rear Projection TV market after years of poor profits. Instead, the company will be focusing on liquid crystal display (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode (OLEDs).
The rear projection TV has been the TV of choice for big screen enthusiasts on a budget for several years. However, as LCD prices drop more and more people are choosing the LCD TV over rear projection models. LCD TVs are much thinner than DLP TVs. They can be mounted on walls, and have a much faster startup time also.
Sony’s new OLED technology is now emerging to replace small LCDs. The OLED TV is much more vibrant than the LCD and allows for a thinner display.
All-in-all, with LCD prices plummeting and OLEDs gaining in popularity, the rear projection TV has simply lost it’s place in Sony’s lineup. However, if you want a 60″ or bigger TV at a low price, rear projection may still be the way to go. Just don’t visit Sony’s website looking for one.
