Meet the VelociRaptor: The Worlds Fastest SATA Hard Drive
Western Digital has released the worlds fastest SATA hard drive, known as the 300GB VelociRaptor.
Although the drive spins at 10,000RPM (a speed which has been available for some time) it features a new design which allows for extremely fast read and write speeds.
The new drive is made for 3.5″ bays in desktop computers, but the hard drive itself is actually a 2.5″ drive. The other inch is used up by a large heatsink needed to keep the drive at temperatures cool enough to operate effectively.
