Windows 7 by Next Year: What Bill Gates Said, and What He Actually Meant
Bill Gates was speaking before the Inter-American Development Bank when he said “Sometime in the next year or so we will have a new version” of Windows, aka Windows 7.
Although many people thought he was referring to a final release version, he was actually referring to an alpha or beta version of Windows 7.
Windows 7 is the successor to Windows Vista, which has underperformed in comparison to previous versions of Windows.
Windows 7 is also rumored to use a version of the Windows kernel known as MinWin, which is a mere 25MB. The smaller kernel was developed by Eric Traut in an effort to reduce the amount of memory usage and decrease the disk space needed to install windows.
Microsoft has not confirmed whether the MinWin kernel will be integrated into Windows 7 or not.
