Details About Psystar’s Mac Clones

If you haven’t seen them yet, where have you been?

Psystar, the controversial company that created the Mac clones (called the Open Computer), has allegedly begun shipping their Open Computers to users. The Mac clones use off-the-shelf hardware to run a patched version of Mac OS X, taken from the OSX-86 Project.

At present, only one person, a reader at Gizmodo, is known to have received his Open Computer. This does little to allay fears of the public that Psystar won’t be able to go through with their hardware running well on OS X. And even if they do, Psystar may get caught in a legal battle with Apple Computers for running Mac OS X on non-Apple hardware which violates Apple’s EULA (End User License Agreement).
